About
People for Planet and Democracy is a nonprofit focused on bringing people together around the issues shaping our communities, including climate, affordability, and democracy.
We believe that strong communities depend on both a healthy environment and a functioning democracy. Too often, these issues are discussed separately or feel out of reach for many people. Our goal is to create space for more accessible, inclusive conversations that help people better understand challenges and engage in solutions.
Through community conversations, partnerships, and outreach, People for Planet and Democracy works to connect people, share perspectives, and strengthen the relationships that make progress possible.
Leadership
People for Planet and Democracy was founded by Mike Urgo, a longtime community leader with experience in local government, environmental advocacy, and civic engagement.
Mike previously served as First Selectman of North Stonington and as President of the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters. Through his work in public service, environmental advocacy, and the private sector, he has seen firsthand how strong communities depend on informed and engaged residents, responsible stewardship of natural resources, and a healthy democracy.

Through conversations, partnerships, and community engagement, the organization works to strengthen connections and support more informed and constructive civic participation.
